This time, I will give you a simple article about "All About HTML". In this discussion, I will not discuss too much HTML code only a few codes that I will explain, because in this discussion more on HTML theory and its origin. If for the HTML tutorial I will make it later later at a later time. We will start with what is html, its history and others.


What is HTML?

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and HTML have been used a lot for web creation and for those of you who are engaged in the programming world, I'm sure all of you will know what HTML is. HTML is not a programming language, like JavaScript or anything else. As the name implies markup language, so HTML consists of tags that tell the browser to display a web page.

Although HTML consists of various tags, but as explained above, HTML cannot be called a programming language. Why ? Because in general a programming language has a programming logic structure such as IF, While, Variables, Debuggers and writing codes or syntax.



HTML is a basic framework in making a web, why is it basic? because if you only use HTML without support like CSS and Javascript, then a web won't be good to see. And for that, HTML cannot stand alone. If it can be likened to a container, this HTML is the container while CSS and Javascript are the contents of that container.

This HTML file, the contents are just a collection of text, and we can create this HTML file using only notepad. The most important thing is that you know how to structure HTML writing.
So HTML is very easy to understand and different from javascript, where javascript contains a collection of codes that are not easily understood by ordinary people. But I will not discuss Javascript here, I will discuss it later.


History of HTML

HTML was created by Tim Berners-Lee, a physicist and also a contractor at CERN. In 1980 he planned and created INQUIRE, a system for researchers in the CERN environment to share documents. Then he wrote a memorandum and proposed an internet-oriented database management system.

Then in 1990, Berners-Lee together with his friend Henry Martyn Robert Cailliau, was a CERN knowledge system engineer, they collaborated on a joint request for funding.

The first description that is publicly accessible about hypertext language is a document better known as "HTML Tag" which was first mentioned on the internet by Tim Berners-Lee. Starting in 1996, HTML has been maintained with input from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). But in 2000, HTML also became an international standard (ISO / IEC 15445: 2000).


HTML Development

On November 24, 1995, HTML 2.0 was published as IETF RFC 1866. In this version, the quality of HTML was able to display the form on the document. With this form, the user can enter their name, address, and suggestions and more. HTML version 2.0 is a pioneer of the existence of an interactive homepage. With HTML 2.0, we can create pages of creation that can be seen by everyone.

HTML version 3.2
On January 14, 1997, HTML 3.2 was published as the World Wide Consortium. WebHTML 3.2 contains new features such as fonts, tables, applets, superscripts, subscripts, etc. One added to the HTML 3.2 standard, is <tag>. This tag introduces unnecessary complexity for important tasks from separating HTML content (text) from presentation (style). In addition to version 3.2 of HTML, we can use scripts outside HTML to support HTML performance, such as JavaScript and Vbscript.

HTML Version 4.0
On December 18, 1997, HTML 4.0 was published as a recommendation by the W3C. This version adopts many types of elements and attributes that are specific to the browser.

HTML version 4.01
HTML 4.01 became standard in 1999. This HTML version, is an improvement from HTML version 4.0 which was first published. HTML version 4.01 is still the official standard until now to fix minor errors in the previous version. This version is also standardized for elements and attributes of the XHTML 1.0 script.

HTML version 5.0
This version was developed starting March 4, 2010 yesterday by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), W3C itself is an organization that handles standard web development. HTML 5.0 is a procedure for creating a new web display which is a combination of CSS, HTML itself with Java Script. This technology was launched in 2009, but is still in the development stage.



Use of HTML

  1. HTML is very famous and is widely used by people whose functions, one of which is to create web pages, besides that there are several other HTML functions:
  2. As I said above, the main function of html is to create a web page that can be read and understood by users more easily. And all web pages on the internet are made with html and there are no exceptions. Have you ever seen a web that wasn't created using HTML?

Elements, Tags, and Attributes in HTML

Tags in HTML are a sign that starts with "<" and ends with ">". In this HTML, there are types of tags, i.e.

  1. opening tag
  2. closing tag
  3. self closing tag

The opening tag is a tag that is used at the beginning of a command, for example to make italic text, then in front of the text, it will use <i>. Other examples are <h1>, <h2>, <span> and others.

The closing tag is the tag used at the end of the command. For example, as in the example above, for example to make the text italic, using the opening tag <i>, then the closing tag contains "/". The example of making italic text

HTML Structure

HTML structure is a standard format that is applied if you want to create a web page. The following below is an example of the structure of HTML

The structure above is the format that must be on a website page. Because if one doesn't exist, then a webpage won't run perfectly

In the code structure above, the <! DOCTYPE html> tag is a special format tag. This tag is specifically used to tell the browser to process data in HTML below it to HTML5.

A complete HTML structure contains elements:

  1. Head
  2. Body

The contents of this Head element will not appear on the screen but the contents of the head element will affect the appearance of a website. Inside this Head Element contains:

  • Title, which is the title that you want to display in the browser
  • Link rel = "shortcut icon", which is an icon on the browser tab
  • Scripts and styles, namely Javascript or CSS scripts
  • Meta name = "viewport", which is more information about the target screen size
  • Meta name = "description", which is a description of the topic for the search engine
